DiaLog is designed to help users record and review dialysis-related information while keeping personal health information private. Your records remain on your device unless you choose to export and share them.
This Privacy Policy explains how DiaLog handles your information.
1. Agreement to This Policy
Before using DiaLog, you must review and agree to this Privacy Policy and the DiaLog User Agreement. If you do not agree to both documents, do not use the app.
2. Information You May Enter
Depending on the features you use, DiaLog may store information such as:
- Your name, date of birth, and optional medical record number.
- Dialysis type, schedule, treatment settings, diabetes status, and supply information.
- Treatment records for CAPD, CCPD, or hemodialysis.
- Vascular access details, such as access type, location, and your target ("dry") weight.
- Health measurements such as weight, blood pressure, pulse, glucose, fluid intake, urine output, and ultrafiltration.
- Medications, including dose, amount, timing, and schedule.
- Intraperitoneal (IP) insulin and blood glucose, if you use the diabetes-related fields.
- Symptoms, wellbeing information, access-site or exit-site observations, and notes.
- Optional photos selected by you for exit-site records.
- Reminder and notification preferences.
Providing this information is optional. You decide what to record.
3. How Your Information Is Stored
DiaLog stores your information locally on your device. DiaLog does not upload your records to our servers and does not use iCloud or CloudKit synchronization.
DiaLog keeps its live database and locally stored treatment photos in the App's private storage and excludes that live data from automatic device backups. As a result, restoring an iPhone or iPad from an Apple device backup may not restore your DiaLog records. Use DiaLog's encrypted backup export if you want a separate copy that you can restore later.
DiaLog does not require an account.
4. Biometric and Passcode Lock
DiaLog can use Apple's device authentication system to protect access to your records. Depending on your device and settings, authentication may use Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.
Biometric information is handled by Apple and your device. DiaLog does not receive, store, or transmit your Face ID or Touch ID data.
5. Notifications
If you enable reminders, DiaLog schedules notifications locally on your device. You can manage notification permissions in your device settings.
DiaLog does not send your treatment information to us when scheduling notifications. Please be aware that notification content may be visible on your lock screen depending on your iOS settings.
6. Photos
Where available, you may choose to attach a photo from your photo library to an exit-site record. DiaLog stores the selected image locally with your records.
DiaLog does not upload your photos to us. The copy stored by DiaLog is excluded from automatic device backups along with the rest of the live DiaLog data. The original image in your photo library, if any, is managed separately by Apple Photos and your device settings.
7. Encrypted Backup Export and Import
DiaLog allows you to create an encrypted backup file that you may save outside the app, including to iCloud Drive or another storage location you choose. A backup may include the app data needed to restore DiaLog, such as your profile, treatment type, settings, treatment records, supply records, reminder preferences, legal agreement status, and any exit-site photos stored by the app.
Backups are created only when you request them and are encrypted on your device using AES-256-GCM, with the encryption key derived from the backup password you provide using PBKDF2. The Developer does not set, receive, or hold this password. DiaLog can import a backup when you choose to restore one, but importing a backup replaces the current data in the app with the data from that backup.
If you forget the password, DiaLog cannot decrypt or restore that backup. Once you save a backup outside DiaLog, the selected app, service, or storage location may handle that encrypted file according to its own privacy practices.
Creating or importing a backup does not enable iCloud or CloudKit synchronization. DiaLog does not automatically sync personal health information to iCloud.
8. PDF Reports and Sharing
DiaLog allows you to create PDF reports from information stored in the app. Reports may include personal and health information.
Reports may also include simple summaries, trends, and calculations generated locally from information you entered. These summaries are for personal record review and sharing only and are not medical advice.
Reports are generated locally on your device. DiaLog only shares a report when you choose to use the iOS sharing controls. Once you share or save a report outside DiaLog, the selected app, service, or storage location may handle that copy according to its own privacy practices.
9. Data We Do Not Collect
DiaLog does not:
- Collect or transmit your personal information to us.
- Sell your personal information.
- Use advertising SDKs.
- Track you across apps or websites.
- Use third-party analytics services.
- Share your health records with healthcare providers or other third parties automatically.
10. Data Retention and Deletion
Your records remain stored locally on your device until you delete the DiaLog app. Deleting the app removes its locally stored data from the device.
Because DiaLog excludes its live data from automatic device backups, you should not rely on an Apple device backup to restore your DiaLog records after deleting the App or replacing, losing, resetting, or damaging your device.
Any PDF reports, encrypted backups, or other copies that you previously saved or shared outside the app must be deleted separately from the location where you saved or shared them.
Because DiaLog does not receive or store your records on a server, we cannot access, recover, or remotely delete your records.
11. Medical Disclaimer
DiaLog is a personal record-keeping tool. It is not a medical device, does not provide medical advice, and is not a substitute for professional medical care. Contact your healthcare provider for questions about your treatment or health.
12. Children's Privacy
DiaLog is intended to be used by adults to record their own treatment information. A parent or legal guardian may also use DiaLog to record and manage treatment information for a person in their care, including a minor patient; in that case, the parent or legal guardian is responsible for the information entered and for accepting the User Agreement and this Policy on the minor's behalf, as described in the User Agreement.
DiaLog is not directed to children, and a child should not use the App on their own. Because all information stays on your device and the Developer operates no servers and collects nothing, the Developer does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children. If a backup or PDF report you create contains a minor's information, you are responsible for how you store and share that file.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when DiaLog changes. The revised policy will be posted at this page with an updated effective date. Where appropriate, you will be asked to review and agree to the updated Privacy Policy before continuing to use the app.
